My 10 Favourite Life Quotes

If there’s one thing about me, it’s that I revel in quotes. I collect them, those of which were written by people I don’t even know. So when I’m sad and looking for ways to make myself feel happier. Or when I overthink and I feel restless. I read.

Because after so many years, I am still ridiculously, hopelessly in love with words. And the power they have over me. To make me be, to make me hurt, to make me cry, to make me feel. And the dream of one day having my writing affect people, the way strangers’ writings affect me–continues to grow strong. I wish to save people with words, the way words save me. Each day.

I thought that it’d be a great to start a series based on this. So for this week’s entry, I’ve selected some of my favourite quotes to share with you all. If you’re seeking motivation or happiness, read on. The theme for this one will be: What Life Is.

1. “I don’t think that anything happens by coincidence… No one is here by accident… Everyone who crosses our path has a message for us. Otherwise they would have taken another path, or left earlier or later. The fact that these people are here means that they are here for some reason.”- James Redfield, The Celestine Prophecy: A Pocket Guide to the Nine Insights

2. “My heart is so small it’s almost invisible. How can you place such big sorrows in it?  “Look,” he answered, “your eyes are even smaller, yet they behold the world.” – Rumi

3. “You get a strange feeling when you’re about to leave a place. Like you’ll not only miss the people you love but you’ll miss the person you are now at this time and this place, because you’ll never be this way ever again.”- Azar Nafisi, Reading Lolita in Tehran

4. “We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.” – Oscar Wilde, Lady Windermere’s Fan

5. “Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.” – Leonardo da Vinci

6. “When i was young i asked more of people than they could give: everlasting friendship, endless feeling. Now i know to ask less of them than they can give: a straightforward companionship. And their feelings, their friendship, their generous actions seem in my eyes to be wholly miraculous: a consequence of grace alone.” – Albert Camus, The First Man

7. “I like beginnings because they’re so full of promise. The first page of a book, the first day of a job, the first time you buy yourself flowers, the first date with a new man, the first touch, the first kiss, the first kick of a good liquor, the first moment you hold your own baby. I like beginnings because i know there’s always more to come.” – Shyma Perera, Bitter Sweet Symphony

8. “And that is how change happens. One gesture. One person. One moment at a time.” – Libba Bray, The Sweet Far Thing

9. “I fell in love with quotes at a very young age. I guess it was interesting to me that someone else is able to unknowingly express my thoughts when i’m at a loss for words; it has me wasting hours on the simple thought that our minds must have soulmates too.” – vigi-la-veris

10. “As you get older you start doing things in reverse. You start cutting people out from your life. Your christmas list becomes practically nonexistent. You don’t need to be the first in line for everything. You take less pictures because some memories are best kept in your heart and not your hard drive. And instead of looking for love, you dig for it from within.” – bookmarks in my life

Disclaimer: I didn’t write these quotes, no, I wish I had though. I did take all the photos!

Other menial thoughts about life lately that I believed was necessary to share. I am so mentally drained from everything that happened today (which is why I’m going to take a nap right after I post this). With me, it’s always about realisations and life lessons – and today’s one is not something new. I just, am very thankful that I have a family that would go out of their way to support me. It’s because of them that I want to keep improving myself. That I know I am not enough yet. That there are so many things that I do and say that I am make me ashamed. That I have so many things I still have yet to learn.  Have yet to change. Because of them, I constantly wish that I was more selfless. The kindness people can give continues to touch my heart.

If you want to know what life is, it starts and ends with family.
