I haven’t posted in a super long time, which is weird–because if I’m being completely honest with you, I’ve already written so many entries for this blog, I’ve piled them up, and they’re literally a “publish” button away from being read. Yet for some reason, I can’t seem to find it within me to publish any of them.
So this one is a catch up post, more than anything else–really. I know that the last entry I’ve written was a Valentines Day one, which means that I’ve completely skipped anything and everything about the New Year, and although it’s almost halfway through the year, well, better late than never–right?
We all have our traditions every New Year. Blasting fireworks, which should probably be illegal by now, attending parties in red, going to Church with the family, listing off a bunch of resolutions.
Well, I have a couple of traditions of my own as well. The first, is that I list down everything monumental that took place the previous year. The second is that instead of just writing resolutions–I also come up with New Year Goals.
So I’ll share with you what goals I came up with at the start of the year, and if I’m actually right on track:
My New Year 2018 Goals
- Learn 3 new recipes
- Master 2 piano pieces
- Read at least 5 new books
- Travel to 3 new places
- Watch 1 new broadway
- Watch 1 concert
- Find a job
- Start investing
- Sell my old clothes
- Lose my tummy
Well, looking at my list now, I haven’t lost my tummy (but I’ve started intermittent fasting! Well, restarted more of, I’ll talk about this more when I actually see results). I’ve only read one new book so far–Tuesdays with Morrie, which I think is one of the best books I’ve ever read. I’m watching The Lion King this May, and Sam Smith this October. I’m currently low-key looking for a job that would suit me best. And just very recently, I travelled to Indonesia and spent my Holy week in both Jakarta and Bali. Then during the start of October, to Osaka.

2017 was hands down the best year of my 22 years of existence. It may have been just ok to others, but to me–it was definitely something else. A year of adventure, of being brave, of independence, of love, of friendship, of family. I learned a lot, and my perspective in life has definitely changed because of the people I’ve met along the path of 2017. Having a strong spirit and big dreams. Basically thinking in ways I’ve never done so before.
2017 was off the top of my little head: my Japan experience and the year I released my blog.
And with self-growth, comes a growth of new challenges as well. My very first taste of adulthood and the thrill of what’s to come from it, the continuity of passion for blogging, the damned thought of making new friends, the hardship of loving those who are too far away, the desire to fix myself and to find a way to make my family safe and happy and finally, the loneliness and emptiness I feel after I’ve experienced something so amazing–leave me to myself.
I’ve learned to adjust back to my life here in the Philippines. The most important thing to me right now, is my family, once again. I also need to promise myself that I won’t be too choosy when it comes to blogging, and just blog when I feel like it. If there’s something important I’ve recently learned it’s that we should always be open to new things, and that comfort is the opposite of progress.

Of course, there are still days when the sum of little terrible things is just one heavy feeling. There are also days when I just feel like I shouldn’t be here–that I should be finding home somewhere else. But there’s nothing a dinner with dessert, a sleepover in a place that is 17 kilometers from here, a phone call with a best friend, and prayer cannot fix.
I am a work in progress, but then again, aren’t we all?
I’m sorry for blabbing so much. I guess I just missed this. I’ll really try my best to upload more often. Anyway, leave a comment below and tell me what your New Year Resolutions and Goals are! Cheers, and I hope you learned something new and interesting. See you in the next one.
