5 Reasons to Wake Up at 6:00am

For the past two weeks, I’ve been experimenting on a morning routine that works best for me, building a few good habits along the way.

Here are 5 reasons why I love waking up early, and I’m never going back.

1. Start your day earlier than the rest of the world

It feels good, knowing I’m one of the few people awake at this time. I can start my day a little earlier than the rest of the world. Those few extra hours mean I am able to accomplish more than the average person, as well.

2. Slow early mornings are the perfect time to build ‘productive habits

Because I’m all about self-improvement, I like to use this time to build on 6 good habits, that would set me to become a more calm, introspective, knowledgeable and productive person. These are habits I don’t think should be rushed, which is why these slow early mornings are the best time to do them.

Here are the 6 Habits of My Morning Ritual:

  1. Fix my bed
  2. Daily Journaling and Future Self Jounral
  3. Reading the news
  4. Skincare Routine
  5. Meditation
  6. Planning my day

3. Each morning is a reset for the mind

Each time I wake up is a restart for me. I leave yesterday’s emotions behind. I like to set my mind right first thing.

4. The silence gives more room for thought

Once everyone wakes up, it’s a rush of thoughts and things. Early mornings mean I can do my personal tasks, without pressure from anyone (i.e. from work).

5. Easier to accomplish mind-heavy tasks

I realised a long time ago, that I am a morning person. This means my brain works and functions very well in the morning, whereas it no longer functions after 7PM or 8PM at night. Tasks that require more braincells are done earlier than the tasks that are more physical and manual.

Some helpful tips:

  • What if you miss waking up early? At the start, I observed whenever I wake up later than 6:00am, the thought of having missed a couple hours of the morning affected my mood negatively for the rest of the day. I would think, ‘well I just wasted two hours I can never get back’ and beat myself up for not being productive. I’d also feel unnecessarily rushed. Honestly, I could have saved those days by easily adjusting my tasks to the hours I had left for the day. There was no reason to beat myself up for it.

  • How do you wake up early? Sleeping earlier helps! I sleep at 10:00pm (or even earlier) every night, and believe me I never use an alarm clock because my body knows when it’s time to get up.

  • What is the first thing you do, when you wake up? As soon as I wake up, I never check my social media. The first thing I do.. I greet my boyfriend good morning. Then I trudge on, and begin my day.

  • ‘But really.. how do you get out of bed?’ The real challenge is not waking up, it’s getting up and not going back to sleep. What gets me out of bed are the reasons I mentioned above. I love my morning ritual, and it genuinely gives me a sense of happiness, calmness, gratitude and fulfillment. There are some days that are harder than others, even weeks I end up sleeping in. But I always go back to early mornings in the end, just thinking of what motivates me to become a better person.

I know that there are morning people and there are night people. There is nothing wrong with either type. If you’re a morning person (or a night person seeking to transition), I’d like to ask, what do you think? Not too difficult, am I right?
